A little like a cross between a ropes course and rock climbing, via ferratas originated in the Italian Alps a century agoโ€”but for travel journalist Stephanie Vermillion, this adventure is unfolding in the most unlikely of places. The first urban via ferrata in the U.S. opened for climbers in 2023, and Vermillion's taking a trip outside her comfort zone by braving this 100-foot (30-meter) via ferrata climb. ๐Ÿง—
