Thousands of demonstrators marched through cities across Australia, calling for an end to the violence in Gaza and freedom for the Palestinian people.
In Sydney, protesters defied a Supreme Court ruling that declared their planned route to the Opera House unlawful, citing safety risks.
Despite strong winds and heavy police presence, the Palestinian Action Group pressed ahead with their rally through the city’s business district, voicing opposition to decades of Israeli occupation and ongoing ethnic cleansing.
Australia recently joined the UK and Canada in formally recognising the state of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly, but protesters argue that symbolic gestures fall short.
Public support for Palestine has surged in recent months, amplified by large-scale rallies, including an August march of over 100,000 people across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Demonstrators vowed to intensify pressure on the Australian government to impose sanctions on Israel—a move dismissed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
