As the world remembers the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, a lesser-known but pivotal chapter is being revisited. In April 1975, while North Vietnamese troops encircled Saigon, the Khmer Rouge seized control of Cambodia. Although both regimes shared communist ideologies, tensions soon erupted. Within four years, Vietnam invaded Cambodia to oust the genocidal Khmer Rouge — ending their reign, but beginning a new occupation.
