‘Video game killing’: Israel weaponises drones to target Gaza civilians, report says

Israeli journalist Meron Rapaport revealed to Al Jazeera that the IDF has weaponised commercial drones, retrofitting them to drop grenades on civilians in Gaza as part of forced displacement efforts. The +972 Magazine investigation found soldiers using these "video game-like" systems to target unarmed Palestinians, including near aid centres, without high-level approval. Rapaport explained the drones now primarily clear areas Israel wants emptied, creating invisible boundaries that Palestinians unknowingly cross. He linked this to broader ethnic cleansing, citing the planned "humanitarian city" in Rafah as the endgame, though construction hasn’t yet begun. Recent intense bombing of northern Gaza, he said, aims to push survivors south toward this zone. While condemning the tactics as part of a deliberate depopulation strategy, Rapaport noted the systematic destruction across Gaza serves the same goal.
