US ban on Mexican livestock imports devastates cattle farmers
The decision to halt all imports of livestock from Mexico by the United States is having a devastating impact on the livelihood of cattle farmers in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.
US agriculture officials say the ban is because of concerns over the spread of a flesh-eating parasite, screwworm.
They say they are working with the Mexican government to reopen imports as soon as possible.
Al Jazeera’s Julia Galiano reports from Chihuahua, northern Mexico.
