An alliance of student publications in the Philippines has released a statement condemning Israel’s “senseless and targeted murder” of journalists in Gaza, including four Al Jazeera journalists and two freelancers.
The College Editors Guild of the Philippines said Israel’s targeted killing of the journalists working in Gaza City on Sunday “must not be condoned, and those who wage war to kill the truth must be held accountable”.
The four Al Jazeera staff killed in the strike were Anas al-Sharif, Mohammed Noufal, Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Qreiqeh.
The statement said the killings, along with those of 200 other journalists in Gaza since the war began, signalled “a deliberate attempt to cover up crimes against humanity amid the deadliest conflict for journalists in modern history”.
“We join the journalism community in condemning these brazen murders,” the statement continued.
