Poland election: Eurosceptic nationalist candidate Karol Nawrocki wins presidential vote

يونيو 2, 2025 - 11:10
Conservative candidate Karol Nawrocki has won Poland's run-off Presidential election by the slimmest of margins, which could have significant ramifications across Europe's political landscape. Nawrocki victory could have implications for EU politics and the war in Ukraine. The president-elect is a Eurosceptic, and although it's a largely ceremonial role, he will have the authority to veto legislation. He has called immigration a major problem for the bloc and urged setting up deportation centres for undocumented migrants rather than transit facilities. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says she's confident the bloc can continue 'good cooperation' with Poland. Al Jazeera’s Hashem Ahelbarra reports from Warsaw.
