Kenyan rights groups pursue class action over fatal police shootings

Pathologists in Kenya are examining bodies from recent anti-government protests, revealing numerous bullet wounds and signs of brutal beatings. Human rights groups accuse police of using excessive force, a claim supported by the country's own oversight authority (IPOA). The protests, which began last year demanding good governance and an end to police brutality, have escalated in violence, with at least 60 people killed in six weeks. July 7th saw the highest single-day death toll, with 38 fatalities, including five children. Concerns have also been raised about unmarked vehicles and hooded men present during demonstrations, prompting investigations into their identity and authority.
