Israeli forces bomb a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City, causing a fire and killing at least 36 Palestinians, including several children. Overall, more than 50 have been killed in attacks since dawn on Monday.
In a separate attack, Israel also targeted a nearby tent camp, killing six members of a family.
Civilian casualties are mounting as Israel intensifies its assault. The latest attacks happened in the middle of the night, while people were sleeping.
Using its usual justification, the Israeli military claims, without providing evidence, that the Fahmi al-Jarjawi school was a “command and control centre” for Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
The Israeli military has bombed hundreds of such places sheltering forcibly displaced civilians since the start of the war in 2023.
Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim al-Khalili reports from Gaza City.
