Iran’s IAEA envoy says US strikes shattered NPT integrity and vows retaliation under UN Charter

Iran’s IAEA ambassador Reza Najafi condemned US strikes on nuclear facilities, calling them a "profound blow" to the non-proliferation regime. He accused the US, as an NPT signatory, of violating treaty principles by attacking safeguarded sites at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan under IAEA monitoring. Najafi warned of potential radioactive contamination risks while asserting Iran’s right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter. His address framed the strikes as rendering the NPT "ineffective", with the US "celebrating unlawful aggression". The condemnation came amid ongoing Israeli attacks on Iranian targets including Tehran’s Evin prison. At the UN Security Council, Russia, China and Pakistan pushed for a ceasefire resolution.
