Iran hails BRICS condemnation of US-Israel strikes, calls Gaza war a result of global impunity

Speaking to Al Jazeera’s Lucia Newman on the sidelines of the 2025 BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei acknowledged the bloc’s condemnation of Israeli-US strikes on Iran as violations of international law, while highlighting stronger support from Arab and Islamic states. He emphasised Iran’s regional diplomacy, particularly with Saudi Arabia, and condemned Israel’s war on Gaza as emboldened by "impunity." On potential US-Israel coordination, Baghaei insisted Iran would not be distracted from defending its sovereignty. Addressing the collapsed nuclear deal, he lamented destroyed trust but reiterated Iran’s peaceful nuclear commitments under IAEA safeguards.
