Madagascar’s army has seized control after weeks of anti-government protests over corruption and poor services.
Lawmakers in the National Assembly voted to impeach President Andry Rajoelina, who had earlier dissolved the chamber.
Rajoelina fled to what he called a “secure location” and confirmed there had been an attempt to seize power illegally.
The Capsat military unit has assumed command of the country’s land, air, and naval forces.
At least two people, including a soldier, were killed in the unrest.
